Making the Most of Your Stay in Alcossebre
The Orange Blossom Coast has miles and miles of beautiful beaches, and secret coves. It also has one of the most mountainous regions in Spain, with medieval villages and outstanding landscapes. Places to visit include Morella, a medieval walled town and Peniscola with its famous castle overlooking the sea. Port Aventura has a fantastic themed water park at The Universal Studios Theme Park.
In Las Fuentes and Alcossebre local shops and supermarkets provide a good selection of quality produce with larger supermarkets and hypermarkets at nearby Benicarlo and Vinaros approx 20 mins drive . There are several Tourist Information Offices. An abundance of local restaurants of all varieties, are close by.
Here are just some of the many local places to enjoy a drink or eat out in Alcossebre and Las Fuentes:
· L’Illa - Restaurant on Las Fuentes Marina, serving Spanish and more international cuisine. Closed on Wednesday. Closes November and May for 3 weeks. 24 hours notice required for paella
· Cordero d’Oro – Restaurant close to Las Fuentes Marina, excellent food, famous for steak. Closed on Sundays and Mondays. Unfortunately does not accept credit or debit cards
· Mari Nostrum – Alcossebre town centre restaurant, serving a varied menu including excellent pizzas that you can watch being prepared! Particularly good for families.
· Cheers – English Bar on the marina serving good quality and reasonably priced food, very good English breakfast. On marina.
· El Pinar – Restaurant with spectacular views in the mountain top village of the same name. Excellent Spanish menu, try the Fish!
· Antonio’s – Alcosssebre town centre, international cuisine.
· Sancho Panza – Slightly more formal high quality restaurant in Las Fuentes, a place for that special meal
· El Mirador – Seafront restaurant overlooking Romana beach
· Bar La Maya – Very popular beach front tapas bar, worth queuing for a table. A good place for lunch.
Coast/Beach
There is a 3 minute drive/10 minute walk to nearest beach, further beaches all within 10-15 minutes. All the beaches are sandy and blue flag with volley ball and basket ball, nets, slides, climbing frames and play areas. Water sports in season include pedalos, wind surfing, scuba diving, jet skiing and coastal cruises.
Golf
Two 18 hole golf courses are within a 30 minutes drive, one is the renowned Bernhard Langer Panoramic Golf Course and the other is Club de Campo del Mediterraneo, the home course of Sergio Garcia.
Skiing
Approximately 90 minutes drive to Spanish Ski Resort at Valdinares.
Mountains
This area is particularly fortunate in that in addition to the beautiful clear waters of the Mediterranean and the sandy beaches and lovely little coves it is also home to the Sierra d’Irta Mountain range which has been designated a national park.
Water parks
At Benicassim you can experience a fantastic water park. Aquarama is located just off the N340 coast road at Benicassim, only 15 minutes’ drive from Alcossebre. Slightly further afield there is Port Aventura. This Universal Mediterranean resort is the most popular theme park complex on the Mediterranean. It has two parks: Port Aventura theme park and Costa Cariba water park. It is located next to the sea is only an hour’s drive from Alcossebre.
Travel
A car is recommended to fully explore and appreciate this beautiful area of Spain. The advantage of holidaying here is the availability of return flights from as low as £25 per person inclusive of taxes, if booked early.

Places to visit
- 14th century templar Castle of ‘Alcala’
- Castellon is the capital city of the province and is located right on the coast, only 30 minutes by car from Alcossebre.
- Valencia is the third largest city in Spain, and is only one hour’s drive along the coast from Las Fuentes and Alcossebre.
- Peniscola is situated only 20 minutes north of Las Fuentes and Alcossebre, is probably one of the Mediterranean’s best known landmarks with its famous Templar castle and fortress. Peniscular is where the epic El Cid was filmed. The castle is the second most popular tourist attraction in Spain.
- Barcelona is Spain’s second-largest city and is full of history and culture. Barcelona is just over two hours’ drive from Alcossebre on the motorway,
- Vinaros is renowned for its local speciality seafood dishes and each year in February they have a carnival similar to the Mardi Gras in Rio,
- Only one hours drive from Alcossebre there is a stunning area called Montanjos, dating back to 225BC, which is famous for its water with apparent healing qualities.
- Perched on a hill occupying a spectacular location is Morella with its medieval castle and fortress, with its unbroken walls. Morella is only a one hour drive from Alcossebre. A lovely village with old fashioned curio shops and restaurants.
- Caverns of St Joseph can be found at Vall d’Uixo, just slightly inland from Nules, south of Castellon and around 30 minutes’ drive from Alcossebre.
- The Columbretes Islands. Only 30 nautical miles off the coastline, this picturesque group of islands forms a horseshoe and is protected as a nature reserve. In the summer months the ‘Barracuda’ sails daily from Las Fuentes Marina.
